Made-to-measure at Maison21 begins with a pattern drafted to your measurements — not a factory block adjusted by algorithm. Construction is full canvas throughout: the suit’s internal structure is sewn rather than fused, so the jacket takes your shape and holds it for decades. Fittings are in person, in Markham, with the maker.

Cloth is selected from our mill range — Zegna, Loro Piana, Reda, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Holland & Sherry, and others on request.

A two-piece suit — jacket and trousers — starts at CAD $1,500, inclusive of your choice of lining, buttons, and all fittings. A waistcoat takes the commission to three-piece pricing; an additional pair of trousers is priced by the fabric range — both confirmed at consultation.

Ready-to-Wear

The ready-to-wear range is cut for the proportions of a modern, active build, in canvas construction, from the same mills as the custom programme. It is a point of entry, not a compromise — and when the occasion calls for more, the transition into made-to-measure is one consultation away.

The Consultation & Fitting Process

1. Consultation. The occasion, the cloth, the silhouette. Fabric swatches from the mill range are in the studio, in hand.
2. Measurement & pattern. A full set of measurements is taken, and a pattern is drafted to those exact specifications.
3. First fitting. The garment is tried before final construction. Adjustments are made to the pattern, not forced onto the cloth.
4. Final fitting & delivery. The finished suit is pressed and presented — approximately six weeks from final measurement.

For weddings and events, book eight to ten weeks before the date; during peak wedding season, allow an additional two-week buffer.

The Cloth and the Construction

Every Maison21 custom garment is cut from cloth sourced directly from the mills that supply the world’s most recognised tailoring houses — Vitale Barberis Canonico, Reda, Loro Piana, Zegna, and Holland & Sherry. These are the same names behind suits sold at several times our price. What follows is where that cloth comes from, and how the garment is built around it.

Where the Fabric Comes From

Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC). The oldest active wool mill in Biella, Italy, in continuous production since 1663. Its structured wools hold their shape across seasons and sit at the centre of tailoring programmes worldwide.

Reda. A Biella mill founded in 1865, and a merino specialist. A Reda cloth is a signal of quality on its own — which is why we name it.

Loro Piana, Zegna, Holland & Sherry. Loro Piana for superfine and luxury fibres; Zegna, which mills its own cloth; Holland & Sherry for British worsteds and formalwear. The names carry their own weight.

Beyond these, Maison21 has access to virtually any mill. Clients are guided to the right cloth for the garment during the consultation — not asked to choose blind.

Full Canvas, on Every Custom Garment

Every Maison21 made-to-measure garment is built on full-canvas construction. A floating layer of horsehair canvas is hand-stitched through the chest and lapel of the jacket — not glued to the face cloth. Over time it conforms to the wearer’s chest, and the lapel keeps a natural roll rather than a pressed-flat edge.

Fused construction — common in fast fashion and much mass-market ready-to-wear — glues the front of the jacket to an interlining instead. That bond degrades: it can bubble, ripple, and separate after cleaning, and it cannot be undone. Half-canvas, a step above fused, runs canvas through the chest but fuses the jacket below the break line; it is common in mid-market ready-to-wear. Maison21 custom is full canvas throughout — the whole front, sewn, not glued.

Made-to-Measure vs. Bespoke: What the Difference Actually Means

In the wider market, bespoke means a pattern drafted from scratch on paper, typically over three to five fittings and several months, priced accordingly — the work of houses in London, Naples, and a small number of North American shops. Maison21 does not offer bespoke, and says so plainly.
